One of the world's largest and most diverse stone reserves is found in Zimbabwe. Shona art, an art movement born from this diversity, takes its name from the Shona tribe and has a history of 1000 years.

According to the Shona tribe's belief, the spirits of their ancestors and gods continue to live in the stones. Artists reveal these spirits when they carve the stones.

LOOP is a work made of cobalt stone by the sculptor Thomas Nyosaka in 2020. It is a depiction of the unresolved vortices created by the human mind and which "actually" have no origin.

Size: 19x17x9 cm...

Artist Biography:

Thomas Nyosaka was born in Mashonaland/Guruve, Zimbabwe in 1985. His father was a miner in the Guruve area who supplied Serpentine and Soapstone for local sculptors. So while Thomas was helping his father, he grew up with a strong bond with the sculptors who were his father’s good customers. He learned to sculpt from them. He developed his own art style with abstract figures. He currently works at the Tsindi art gallery in Harare and his work is appreciated by art lovers all over the world.
