One of the world's largest and most diverse stone reserves is found in Zimbabwe. Shona art, an art movement born from this diversity, takes its name from the Shona tribe and has a history of 1000 years.
According to the Shona tribe's belief, the spirits of their ancestors and gods continue to live in the stones. Artists reveal these spirits when they carve the stones.
INFINITY is a work made from Springstone, a stone unique to Zimbabwe, by Shonal artist Tawanda Makore in 2021.
It depicts the mystery of nature, the cycles of the ever-changing universe...
Artist Biography:
Born in 1979 in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, Tawanda Makore was inspired from an early age by her uncle, the famous sculptor Akence Makore, and was influenced by the cubic sculptures produced by Zotoh Sango. She quickly developed her own technique and style, eventually joining various artist groups. She is one of the new generation of young artists who are making a difference with her work, and one of the rare talents from Zimbabwe who have emerged on international platforms. Her work has evolved into a unique style of abstract sculptures called Vision Sculptures and a pure, experimental touch.
