One of the world's largest and richest stone reserves is located in Zimbabwe. Shona art, an art movement born from this diversity, takes its name from the Shona tribe and has a history of 1000 years.
According to Shona tribes' belief; The spirits of ancestors and gods continue to live in stones. Artists reveal these spirits when they carve the creatures.
EMOTIONAL GIRL is a work made from Soapstone, an African stone, by shona artist CLIFFORD CHOTO in 2021.

Artist Biography:
Born in Murehwa in 1981, like many Zimbabwean artists, he is an informally trained sculptor. He took workshops from his brother, who is also a sculptor, and specialises in sculpture. He sometimes works abstractly, and sometimes works on figurative and emotionally charged portraits.
Emotional Girl captures a young girl's deep, touching emotions through her facial expressions.
